She was confident they would not overtake her.”

SHE FLEW HIGH

She flew high in the sky.  No darkness could even over take her and no other ship could come close to her.  She was in paradise.  Just lollying around like this was fun.  She knew they could not overtake her souped up space ship.

As she let the heat from the sun in the windows and enjoyed its warmth, the thought of another ship out here disturbed her and she quickly eyed her space.  She wasn’t sure how far away from her home planet she was but it had to be a long ways.

She wasn’t named Queen of Light for nothing and she now knew how to fly their space ships.  She was in seventh heaven and willing to let the sun rays warm her up and she was lulled into a soft sleep.

The next thing she knew, she was hearing a voice that said, “Start your engine slowly and head far home.”

Queen of Light smiled softly and thought they would never get her until she looked out the windows and the space ships all around her.  She wondered how this could have happened.  She was sure they weren’t tailing her and here they were; 20 ships to bring her in.  But she felt good.  Twenty ships had been sent out in search of her before they found her.  Then she had been asleep.  Drat!

Again she heard that voice, “Start your engine slowly and head for home.  This is Sgt. Newcomer and you will do as I say.”

Yes, Queen of Light decided to try to do her best for these lowly persons.  She started her engines and let them warm up.  Then she headed for home.  Although she didn’t want to go there, she knew she had to.  Once on the way home, she wondered if she could outrun the police.  She doubted it because they were fast, so she slowly went home.  If only she hadn’t gone to sleep, she would have given these police vans a run for their money.  Now she was caught and had to go home to her punishment.  Well, she didn’t care; it had been fun while it lasted.

She settled the ship down and was going to unbuckle herself but she didn’t see anyone around.  She wondered if she had been dreaming and Sgt. Newcomer was only a figment of her imagination.  She thought about trying for a new take off but just then there was knocking on the door.  She quickly pried open the door and the man standing there was Sgt. Newcomer.  He said, “Follow me.”

‘He isn’t much for words,’ was her first thought but she finally got herself unclamped from her chair.  She followed Sgt. Newcomer down the ramp and everybody was cheering him on.  Didn’t they know who she was?  Well, she would sure give them a good talking to if ever she got loose.  Whenever she got loose, huh!  Whenever she got loose was a big problem right now.

The sergeant stopped and asked her to stand up straight and to smooth her clothes down.  She didn't want to look bad when they entered the building.  At first it was very dark in there and then the lights came on.  Queen couldn't tell if it was Sgt. Newcomer or her they were cheering, but it sure sounded like herself.

"Yea, Queen of Light!  Queen of Light!" was repeated over and over.  The man, Sgt. Newcomer, removed his helmet and she saw it was her own father.  She was so dumbstruck she couldn't say anything.  He said, "Happy Birthday, Sweetheart."

Then she remembered it was her 18th birthday and she was being honored.  Afterwards, she could do what she wanted.  She hugged her father and then ran around greeting everyone.  She was so happy to be back among grownups, that she never wanted to be left alone again."
