Different Colors Everywhere

I love colors and I am hoping for rain while in New York this coming week.  I love to see all the lights because they are so pretty.

Can you imaging all the spectacular beauty of thousands of lights, shining on a wet pavement?   That is so pretty, I usually go out walking in the evening.  I love to tap my feet in a puddle and watch the ripple effect go every which way, because the effect is so pretty.  There are pinks, reds, browns, blue and yellow and so many different colors they make up, that I get dizzy from looking at them.

Well, I have a few more days to pack and then I’m off.  Boy, it will be nice getting to New York again, and seeing all the pretty sites.  Most of the year, I just look at posters and magazines and say how I wish I was there.  But of course most of the time I can’t go because it is to expensive there.  But I’m saving my money and I should have quite a little bundle by the time I’m ready to go.  One more pay check to add to my growing amount and I’m set.  I think I’ll call Beth to see how she is doing.  I dial her number and get a dial tone, oh well; she is always talking with someone.  I’ll try later on.

I sit down to watch ATV on television because it is so funny sometimes, I can really laugh a lot.  This makes me feel good because I love to laugh.  After the show is over, I try again  to get Beth, but she is still busy.  I suppose talking with some friends.  I’ll get her tomorrow at work and I go to check my suitcases.  I just can’t seem to be satisfied with the way I pack, there’s never enough room for it all.

I look in everything to make sure I have enough of everything and those things I don’t need, too, but carry around no matter where I go.  You never know when you’ll need them.

I try to get Beth one more time before going to bed and what do you know, it rings.  It’s the fourth ring and I’m about to hang up when she answers, “Hello, Beth here.”

My gosh,” I said, “I thought I’d have to get the Army out looking for you.  How are you feeling?  Are you all packed?” I asked.

“Oh, hi Marie.  How are you?  Yes, I’m all packed and ready to go.  Oh, I wish it were tomorrow, don’t you?”

“Yes, I sure wish it were tomorrow.  I’ve got everything packed except for my tooth brush and paste,” I said.  “Of course I’ll need that until the last day.  Oh, I’m so excited to be going to New York, aren’t you?”

Beth said, “I sure am.  I wish it were tomorrow.  Well, Marie, I better get to bed, working day tomorrow, you know.”

“Yes, I know, Beth.  See you at work tomorrow.  Bye,” I said as I hung up, wondering why she was so curt with me, thinking maybe she had ‘him’ over again.  She liked her men, but having them over on a Sunday evening was bad business.  Well, I hope she was at work tomorrow.

Time at work seemed to go so fast I could hardly believe it was Thursday already.  Tomorrow night we’d be on the plane for New York.  What a glorious time this was going to be, I thought.

On Friday I called to Beth, “I’ll see you later on.  Now I have to get ready for the airport.  See you later,” and I hurried off to get ready.

We were on the plane and raring to go.  Both of us were so excited to be going to New York.  “I can’t believe it, we’re on our way,” I said as the plane took off.

Beth gave a little squeal because she was afraid to fly.  She said, “Can I open my eyes now?”

“Of course you can open your eyes,” I said.  “Just look at the beautiful scenery below.”

“No thank you.  I don’t want to look out the window,” she said.  “You know I’m scared to death to fly.”

It didn’t seem like it look us anytime to get there.  The pilot said, “Fasten your seat belts, we are going to land now.”

Beth already had her belt tight and her eyes squeezed tight.  I laughed and said, “Oh Beth, open your eyes.  It’s beautiful out there.  It’s raining.”

“What?” she opened her eyes and looked out, “It is not raining.  You fooled me.”  As she looked out the window, she said, “Oh, it is pretty out there isn’t it?”  Then she said, “I’ve always been afraid to fly, but now that I see how beautiful it is, I won’t be afraid anymore.”

We landed and got off the plane.  We waited for out luggage to come up, and then we got a taxi to our hotel.  We both stood and looked up at the huge hotel we were staying in.  “Pretty impressive, isn’t it?” the taxi driver said as he waited to be paid.

“It sure is,” I said as I handed him the money for the taxi.  “Does it rain here very often?” I asked.

“Oh, maybe once a month, sometimes longer,” he said as he thanked us and drove off.

“Once a month,” I said, “why couldn’t he say, like tomorrow.

Beth laughed and took her suitcases inside the hotel.  “Oh, what a cute place,” she said as she stood inside the door, looking around.

“Beth, this is going to be just wonderful,” I said, looking around.

We signed in for our room and went up to the 15th  floor.  It was really gorgeous up there.  We could see quite a ways from up here.  Good thing it wasn’t all tall buildings.

We hung up our things, and then changed our cloths.  We were in a hurry to look the city over.

As we walked down the boulevard looking in each store window and exclaiming how pretty every thing was, we decided to take a taxi to the photo building.  We had been told to be sure to go there as it was very interesting.  As we entered the building, we were bumped into by two guys.

They said how sorry they were and we grabbed our purses to us.  We didn’t want them to disappear, and we hurried inside.

We couldn’t really enjoy the displays because we were very upset by those men.  We liked looking at the photo equipment they had and the difference in film that was there.  But after an hour in there, we decided to leave but stopped short by seeing those men outside.  We asked the lady in charge if there was a different way out and she said to follow her.  She unlocked a back door and let us out.  We thanked her and hurried up and left.  We caught a taxi at the next corner and went back to out hotel.  We were very glad to be safe at the hotel.

The next morning when we got up it was cloudy out and we were overjoyed.  This evening we could walk in the rain, we hoped.  We both got out our walking boots and we enjoyed our walk down the boulevard.  We had each hid some money on our person and we weren’t carrying anything.  You can’t be too careful when in New York; there were a lot of men just waiting to pick on innocent women.

We had a lot of fun in New York and now it was only one day left.  What should we do?  We were both getting down to our last dollar and really, there wasn’t anything we wanted to see anymore, so we just stayed in our room and enjoyed the day.  We ate in the hotel restaurant and took our time enjoying every thing.  Finally Beth said, “Oh, I’m so full, I couldn’t eat another thing.”

Marie said, “Well, I hate to disagree with you but no desert for me, either.  Wow!  That was the best meal, yet.  If it wasn’t for those men, I think I’d enjoy living here.”

The two of us hurried to our room and just let the evening go by.  We didn’t feel like doing anything.  The next day we took our time packing and really felt tired out, we were leaving New York.  Beth said, “You know, I really hate to leave.”

Marie said, “I know, I feel the same way.”

We took our luggage to the airport and checked it in and just walked around, enjoying the beautiful day.  It would all be over once we got home and got ready for work Monday.  Vacations just never lasted, did they?
