When Stars Are Born

January 27, 1967,

New stars join the heavens,

Chaffee, Grissom and White,

The first three are added,

Before leaving Earth.

January 28, 1986,

Higher this time,

With many successes,

Seven more are joined,

Yet with sadness remembered.

February 1, 2003, Saturday morn,

They were watched from below,

And seven new stars were born.

Was the challenge too much,

Too awesome, too great?

We’ll pause and reflect,

While gazing toward heaven,

Upon strides taken and successes achieved.

Each mission was higher and further aloft,

They never feared the challenges daunting,

And each star will rejoice,

With our success the next time.
