FAREWELL
The eyes-- open,
Stare as though into a mirror,
Wrinkles, withered casings,
Vacant globes,
Reflecting their own demise;
Immortal sight--
Mutable plight--
Struggle with the unseen enemy;
Helpless against the ancient clay,
Which must return
To be remolded,
But not by these hands....
Earthbound
Until set free
As the shell cracks
And falls away.
Now go swiftly,
For, divested of that fragile vehicle,
You do not belong to the earth
Anymore.
